Visual Arts Panel Member - South of Scotland Visual Artist and Craft Makers Award Scheme 2014-2015
Background to the Chamber of Arts
Dumfries and Galloway Chamber Arts is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) which was set up as an advocacy body for the arts in 2014. The Chamber works closely with the council, Creative Scotland and other bodies to support investment and planning for best value resource.
The Chamber of Arts is pleased to support a Visual Artists and Makers Awards Scheme in the South of Scotland 2014-2015, in partnership with Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Visual Arts Panel Member Role
An opportunity exists for a professional visual arts practitioner to become part of a selection panel which will offer awards of between £500 and £1500 to resident artists and makers to develop their practice. Expert representation for visual arts is invited by scheme partners from Dumfries and Galloway to complement specialist craft input from the Borders.
A key element to this role is the ability to be objective. Panel members are ineligible to apply for awards and must be clear not to anticipate conflicts of interest, such as those possibly regarding friends, family or colleagues intending to apply to the award scheme.
The Chamber of Arts welcomes interest from individuals who can illustrate;
• depth of experience in a visual arts practice
• knowledge of range of visual arts practice
• understanding of the Visual Artists and Makers Award Scheme
Experience of decision making, commissioning or other similar panel / team, roles in an arts context would be an advantage. Personal experience of being the recipient of an award previously would also be of distinct interest. Fee: Total £500 plus travel expenses, to contribute to 2 panel meetings and pre-meeting review of applications; £250 fee, per meeting will be paid in arrears.
Availability: It is anticipated that the successful applicant will be required to consider applications and meet with the panel mid-late October 2014 and mid-late March 2015. Panel meetings will be held in Langholm/Gretna and are expected to last 3-4 hours. Application submissions will be sent to panel members min. one week before panel meetings.
